Davenport Desk

Ask Jane:
Q: You dedicated Silent Auction to your mother, Ruth Chessman. Was she a writer, too?

typewriter A: She was indeed! She wrote several articles and short stories, but her biggest success came from a wonderful middle school novel called Bound for Freedom. The book was made into a movie for our nation's Bicentennial. She loved words, and she taught me to revere language.
